Phoenix Gundam once again. If there is one thing I've noticed and experienced with Gundams or any other mecha... it is that you have to know what you are doing when you make them articulate in a way that exposes a joint or "vital".
Since most of my mecha drawings are typically a hybrid of bio-mimetic and industrial qualities, I've decided that on a good day, the Phoenix will have Joint armour as shown in the above image.
Oh! I've explained this so many times in the past that I forgot. The armour around the waist is segmented but is covered by this flexible material (similar to rubber and Kevlar) so that it's armour is not compromised and still has exceptional flexibility.

Always good to simplify your work when you plan to draw a thing multiple times from many angles.
I noticed your comment about flexible materials around the midsection. I figured that was what it was but I want to know what you think about a few of my ideas concerning it.
It's a flexible material that won't tear easily, but I imagine it will still be vulnerable. So I'm thinking every now and then, if it comes down to a blade fight, someone would go for the delicate midsection, just as you might go for a gut shot.
I'm pretty much saying I want to have him take a gut shot that severly limits his mobility (a lot of movement relies on the muscles in the middle). Perhaps even going so far as him leaning back and the midsection tearing open completely (eviseration) and causing him to tumble backwards with no way to continue the fight.
Essentially an opportunity to up the tension and stress the importance of his team mates, since they would have to save him.
On Twilight: One can only assume that 109 year old Edward is totally screwing with Bella's head. Why else would he date a vapid, boring, stupid girl like her?
"...I'm thinking every now and then, if it comes down to a blade fight, someone would go for the delicate midsection, just as you might go for a gut shot."
Of course the material is vulnerable to blades. But it makes up for that in that it is invulnerable to arms fire (mecha scale) and kinetic impacts (punches).

The thing I wanted to stress in MWG, even though Tomo and many other characters are exceptionally talented, there is still isn't a very large skill curve. Which means even minor skirmishes will be drawn out and may even hinge on the pilots awareness of his surroundings and good luck.
As far as the evisceration... later I wanted an Epic battle between the Phoenix and the Dragon where Tomo (non-literally) gets K.O.'d by getting cut in half across the midsection.

This newsletter was "born" back in March 2007, from a conversation between ~Lareth and =FrozenStarRo, who with the help of their friends *Iardacil and =Sylwiaa , wanted to make something to promote known and unknown photomanipulators alike here on DeviantArt. As of September 2009 =ImaginaryRosse joined the project and will be helping us out with the weekly choices. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same. As of recent, the talented =Behana has joined us in bringing you this weekly newsletter and we are excited to have her on board. This is a special feature, with a selection of 50 manips from the past year that we loved.
